SHORT RECITAL:

The trune of the industry-wise agreement dated 24th July 1980, on wages for daily rated workers in the Assam Valley having expired on the 31st January 1983, the Assam Chah Mazdoor sangha, demanded revision of wage rateswith effect  from 1st February 1983. Accordingly, bipartite negotiations took place between the Assam  Chah Mazdoor Sangha and the Employers' Associations on 9th and 29th April, 20th May, 28th June and 22nd July 1983, at Dibrugarh.

2. The above increase in wage shall be added to the rates of daily allowance for plucking as provided in industry-wise agreement on plucking rates dedted 9th October 1977. However, for a full daysIn course of discussions the Employers' representatives pointed out the difficulties of the gardens in Karbi Anglong district and uneconomic gardens particularly in Jorhat, Golaghat, Nowgong. Kamrup, and Goalpara district and also those gardens selling green leaf.

Finally an agreement on the question of wages for the daily rated workers of tea gardens in the Assam Valley was arrived at on 1st August 1983 on the following terms;

1 a) There will be an increase in the daily wages of workmen as follows:

b) However, since the previous agreement expired sometimes back, the employers agree to pay a sum of Rs.50/- (Rupees Fifty) to each adult daily rated worker and Rs. 25/- (Rupees Twenty-five) to each child worker for attendance of 70 days or above and proportionately less for lesser attendance during the date of this agreement. This amount will be paid within 0th November 1983.

normal work the minimum guaranted rates of wages shall be paid to the workers. The payment of the above increases in wages will commence form the 1st August, 1983.

3. The Sangha agreed to consider the case of gardens in Karbi Anlong District separately.

4. This agreement will not stand in the way of gardens having genuine difficulties in coming to a bipartite understanding with central Union in the implanting of this Agreement.

5. This agreement will cover the Period upto 31st July 1986 and the Union agreed that during the pendency of the agreement the workers and the Unions will not raise any industry-wise demand or dispute in respect of the rates of wages for the daily rated workers on Assam Valley.
